Discover Newton-le-Willows & The Kirkfield: Essential Stop for Travelers

Aside from the nauseous part of the winding single lane roads of rural Scotland and England, I can’t imagine a more lovely way to spend an autumn day with the one you love. When a midway point is needed for a rest and some sustinence, please note that Newton-le-Willows is quite an adorable checkpoint for the journey. Newton-le-Willows (loving this name) is a tiny town, booming with restaurant and bar/pub options, anchored by the lovely inn, The Kirkfield.

Even though we had a very quick overnight stop, the time awarded us a lovely first floor room at The Kirkfield. The hotel pub was busy in the best way, seemingly a normal haunt for well heeled locals afterwork and of course, visitors like ourselves. While we should have dined there in hindsight, the bar made for a great apero workspace and delicious breakfast the next morning.

It’s hard to hate any room with low beams in the ceiling and fluffy robes to welcome.

For the traditional vibe of the inn, I was surprised by the rasta lion decor in our room. In my head, it was either a bad Christmas gift repurposed or a creepy guest camera. I asked the Gentleman to place dirty laundry over the lion’s dirty eyes just in case it was the later.

The spacious accomodation also had a cute sitting area with a table made of clock gears.

The bathroom seemed a little mismatched to the spaciousness and coziness of the room, but it did it’s job. No complaints.

I would welcome another cross country voyage if nothing other than for a quick stop at The Kirkfield (ok, and maybe the company and scenary). Just be sure to make plans to dine there like half of the town on Wednesdays (2 for 1 cocktails!).
