Dining Experience at The Pied Bull, a Newton-le-Willows Pub

Not going to lie, had to Google what a Pied bull is (color markings it turns out), but we went to this bustling pub for a bit our only night in Newton-le-Willows. Lured by the prospect of a resonable prix fixe menu after a long travel day, we made a reservation. A normal action for a London pub, this team seemed confused by our planning, and rightfully so. This pub was BUSY and in a fun way, but also in a maybe a little bit of a rough way? Regardless, the dining room was fairly empty, but its slightly elevated position made for excellent people watching of the rammed bar below.

Committed to the prix fixe, we both started with the salt & pepper squid. Salty, chewy goodness, perfect to accompany a bottle of red – Malbec, not the usual- as their menu seemed seriously out of date (or out of stock). Three orders later we found a bottle they actually had on hand. But with a 10 GBP price tag off with our fixe meals, who could blame the empty shelves.

I opted for steak frites which was nice, not life changing, but what more could one want for a steal? Not me, I was a happy lady.

The Gentleman went for a chicken burger because for some reason this is his travel meal and he seemed to enjoy it- maybe more than me.

We opted to skip the third optional course of dessert and finish our vino instead. Overall the evening was pleasant enough, but in hindsight, a meal at The Kirkfield was probably the way to go. Next time….
