After doing some recent pizza topping recon for a home project, I came across the UK’s top pizza lists (who knew that was a thing!) and was introduced to Pizza Punks in Glasgow as a top spot. Coinciding with an overnight in the city, they were launching a new menu and offering pizzas as buy one, get another for 1 GBP. Of course, we had to try it!

The open plan dining room had a great view of the small, but busy kitchen.

Service was super low key, with cutlery and such on in jars on the table. We loved the individual pizza cutters as part of the service.

A small wine list had us ordering a Moltepulciano as the only real option as the alternative was a merlot. Unfortunately, the wine wasn’t great, but we were there for the pizza…. The Punks pride themselves on any toppings for one price, so I opted to try half of their “Hawaiirn-Bru” and half of the sausage and broccoli. The later was the clear winner (as the waiter advised it would be). As a connoisseur of Hawaiian pizza, I was so disappointed in the lack of heat and generally flavor when the ingredients are described as “Irn-Bru ham hock, caramelized pineapple, scotch bonnet & pineapple hot sauce.” For me, this really lacked in flavor for such an exciting description.

While we enjoyed the inexpensive night out, it certainly didn’t inspire a return visit and made us look forward to our next homemade pizza night at chez nous.
