Learning our new city has been a fun adventure and making a point to do the touristy things when time permits, we recently toured the town via “The Red Thread,” a literal red line that meanders throughout 36 sites in the city center, taking inspiration from Boston’s Freedom Trail. The first stop is conveniently outside of the the tourism office since they make a point to sell you a guide book for 3.50 EUR. Oh la la, what a racket. The Husband kindly lead us through the city and read the entire book aloud throughout the afternoon. It was rather adorable and I counted it as a tick towards my 2026 reading list, as I’m much behind on my book count for the year. (Someone send me a beach vacation so I can catch-up, stat!)

Hannover has a very interesting history, especially around WWII as most of it was destroyed and the book speaks to much of this as well as touching on French architecture as well as local art. I’d highly recommend doing this even if it sounds a little cheesy, it’s a great overview of the beautiful city. And if you’re coming to visit us, bring your walking shoes because we’re putting that little book to use.
