La Petite Perigourdine- Paris

After a lovely, but exhausting holiday week in the UK, we Eurostarred over to Paris to…sleep…as it would turn out. Also, eat. Rather than spend hours seeking out the best bistro or even bothering to wear the fanciest clothes packed, we headed for the neighborhood staple, La Petite Perigourdine. The meal was so easy and delicious on the first night that we opted for one of the sister restos the following night. Nothing like stumbling out of hotel slumber to snack on some very lovely new year’s oysters (and not pictured: champagne).

On the first night I stupidly had the scallops which were just fine, but served on a bed of risotto…while I watched the rest of the bistro tuck into creamy, indulgent potatoes aligote served tableside. The regret was heavy.

A rather large cafe gourmande served as a good distraction.

The next night, I knew I had to try these gorgeous potatoes so we headed to En Face, across the street, to try a similar menu. Onion soup to start…

And a saucisson doused in a very generous serving of aligote potoates. Not something seen on many menus, I was happy to tuck into this indulgent, cheesy treat. It was about half way through the plate when the cheesy potatoes were more remniscent of paste than something I’d want on the regular. They are just so…heavy!

We literally rolled out of this bistro and back to the hotel to continue to seemingly never-ending sleep catch-up. I’m glad to have tried the potatoes, but would not be dreaming of them.
