Il Palazzo Experimental- Venice

We spent a lovely few days at the Il Palazzo Experimental in Dorsoduro. Despite being the height of August heat, the hotel was a breath of fresh air with it’s gorgeous gardens- not previously seen on a winter trip to the property- and dark, cool rooms.

We booked a superior room which was said to have a queen sized bed. Happily, we found the room rather spacious (by Venice standards) and a large bed. Artisanal wall cubbies were the perfect home for the coffee station, luggage storing, and most importantly, hat resting.

Said cubbies, with a modern Venice flair.

The mini bar was well-stocked, though remained untouched by us. Robes and slippers were a great help to have, and maybe even more so were the branded wellies for high rain season.

The bathroom was strange as it’s double, saloon style doors, had a crack in the middle, not offering too much privacy. The sink space was small, but manageable and the shower, a good size, despite the odd horizontal orientation.

For some reason there is always a scale at Experimental properties. While I avoided it, because pasta, the Gentleman tortured himself with a jump onto it.

Somehow in four nights at the Experimental Palazzo, we failed to dine or even have a drink at the property. While we both had nice experiences doing so in the past, the vibe about this trip was just a little bit off. So much so, that perhaps we decided not to book the property chain in the future. While hard to put a finger on it, our quest for perfect boutique hotels continues.
