For our Saturday night out in Moncalvo, we hit up the best reviewed restaurant we could find- Reale Corona. The restaurant defo had some highs and lows. It’s perhaps we needed more guidance in our order, but I’d give it another go. We were beautifully seated in the window which would have had exceptional sunset views had we arrived just a scootch earlier.

After we settled on starters and mains, we were brought an aggressive amount of salty bits for appetizers. Pastry dough abounded, who would have room for dinner? We would make it.

To start, I went with the simple housemade egg pasta with freshly saved truffles. While it was good, it was defo a bit of a disappointment. For me, it needed mounds of salt and pepper an was largely bland.

The gentleman went with a creamy, comfort pasta ( a much better choice) which included sausage, peas, and mint. A surprising combo- I keep waiting for him to recreate this at home.

My main was definitely the worst decision of the night, but it was hyper local, so I can’t be mad. COLD chicken and veg in a pickle broth. One bite was plenty. A dish full, was well, a mistake.

The lamb chops though- wow! The gentleman ordered correctly again as these were a game changer. Served with local berries and roast potatoes, they were perfection. Lucky for me, he shares.

Despite having far too much food, a bottle of Billecart-Salmon…we had Barolo to finish (when n Rome) and ordered dessert- the hazelnut cake…because Rome… The elements on the plate were terrific, save for the cake which was dry as hellll.
