Auberge de Duillier

on

As it turns out, I’m moving! Life comes at you fast and just when you think you might go one direction, something else appears out of the blue. A house in a neighboring village it would be then! To celebrate, there was a beautiful evening with laughter and (happy) tears at the charming Auberge de Duillier.

While we had a reservation without prime seating, we talked our way into a vineyard-front, lake-view table among the trees and umbrellas. Darling.

The resto wasn’t terribly full on a Thursday night, but it was busier than I’d expect for a village inn. Front row vineyard seats were poppin’!

We were there for the steaks so went light on a starter and shared the ham and melon (and melon sorbet) plate. It was nice, but definitely not a plate to share.

While we ordered champagne to celebrate the new house, the waiter asked us if we wanted them ‘kir’ to which someone replied ‘oui!’ I’m not sure why, but a kir royale kind of night it would be.

The main was quite a large steak with a generous portion of veg, mashed potatoes, and onion straws. It was surprisingly flavorful as far as Swiss meals go. While expensive, this seemed like a good splurge meal. The wine was local, from the vineyard of the auberge and while not generally fans of Swiss reds, wasn’t so bad either.

For dessert….the less than intelligent decision to try lemon sorbet dosed in absinthe. What a flavor explosion! And not in a good way. My face says it all.

Overall, Auberge de Duillier was a lovely treat, so Swiss! The service was quite friendly, the food was rather flavorful, so it definitely had the markings of a special occasion spot that we can walk to from our new home. C’est tres charmant!
