Fun Date Night at the Barbary London

The Barbary stole my heart back in 2018 when I first visited, solo, of course. Seeking somewhere new, fun, easy, but with great food, I booked it for our last night in the city ahead of an exceptionally long business trip. Doesn’t hurt that they have a spot as a Michelin reco, serve killer champs, great natural wines, and a front-row seat to the cooking and grilling something I knew the Husband would love and did.

The unassuming spot offers just counter seating for its Northern African fare and offers you a map as a placemat, helpful in discovering your journey.

Table setting with a menu from The Barbary restaurant, featuring a selection of dishes, a fork, a knife, and a glass on a marble surface.

We started with the Naan and opted to try an eggplant-chunky dip as well as the Za’aluk, a gorgeous herby concoction.

A plate of naan bread drizzled with olive oil, accompanied by a small dish of mixed vegetable relish and a bowl of green sauce, with a vintage lamp in the background.

We also moved to the gorgeous lamb chop….

A plate featuring grilled meat pieces, sliced to reveal a pink interior, accompanied by a garnish of fresh herbs and thinly sliced onions.

And naturally coffee-rubbed roast chicken for The Husband.

Since we were celebrating, we both ordered dessert, which literally never happens. He tried the chocolate cremeux and I had the semifreddo baklava. I would say I win, but I’m never much for chocolate.

Another incredible meal at The Barbary and I’m thrilled they are opening a second location in Notting Hill. Thanks to a lovely farewell dinner, the Neal’s Yard location remains a special place in my London repertoire.
