A Rainy Evening at Sunny’s Miami

On a recent ladies’ weekend in Miami, I had the good fortune of dining at the hotspot du jour, Sunny’s. My friends are planners and managed to snag a reservation the moment they were available. Given that it was raining sideways, we had the extra good fortune of a corner booth inside, next to Robin Thicke no less, for a most Miami evening. As the restaurant is centered around a large outdoor courtyard and bar, temporary tents were erected to block the rain, but drips abounded and the staff was outfitted in full on rain gear, escorting guests to and fro under the cover of oversized umbrellas…even beneath the drippy tents. Wild!

The restaurant is known for their signature drink the Green Ghoul, a fresh tequila based concoction of which many were sampled by our group.

It was so great to catch up with everyone and I loved the quirky old school Miami vibes coupled with older school hip hop music in the background. The ambiance made for a very fun evening.

We opted to share everything as required by four long time friends dining out- starting with the Parker House rolls and Cesar salad. Very nice, nothing overly special, even the rolls which were billed as such.

A plate of grilled romaine lettuce with a sprinkle of cheese, accompanied by a side of soft bread rolls and a small dish of butter, set on a dimly lit table.

We then shared a steak, whipped potatoes, asparagus, roast chicken, and la piece de la resistance, the crab and saffron pasta- absolutely to die for. At this point I was annoyed we were sharing and thought about just tipping the contents straight into my Miu Miu bag, if only she wasn’t cream.

For dessert, we split the Kougin Aman ice cream sandwich, a fun take on the usual, but it didn’t feel quite special enough to ride alongside the delectable crab pasta.
