Fruit Danish

Need a little something sweet, but also don’t have too many ingredients in the pantry? Something that can double as brekky or dessert? Fear not, this easy fruit danish recipe is the perfect solution. There are a million iterations of this recipe as there are fruit, but this go we’ll tackle just two- cherry with Nutella and cinnamon pear.

Fruit Danish

For fruit mixture:

  • 2 c. frozen cherries
  • 1/2 T. cornstarch
  • 1/2 T. sugar
  • 2 c. sliced pear
  • 1/2 T. cornstarch
  • 1/2 T. sugar
  • 1/2 T. cinnamon

For the Danish:

  • 1 sheet of pate brisee (or puff pastry)
  • 8oz. cream cheese
  • 1/2 c. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • egg wash- beaten in a small bowl and mixed with 1 T. water

For Topping:

  • Warmed Nutella, to drizzle over cherry pastry
  • Powdered sugar, to sprinkle over pear pastry
  1. Preheat oven to 400F. Prepare a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In one bowl combine cherries, cornstarch, and sugar. Mix well and set aside for 15 minutes.
  3. In another bowl combine pears, cornstarch, sugar, and cinnamon. Mix well and set aside for 15 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla.
  5. On prepared baking tray unroll the pate brisee and cut into 8 rectangles.
  6. Spread cream cheese mixture on top of each rectangle, leaving a 1/2″ border.
  7. Arrange fruit artfully on top of cream cheese mixture, then slightly turn up corners and borders where possible.
  8. Brush exposed pastry with egg wash.
  9. Bake ~25-30 minutes until exposed pastry is golden brown.
  10. Once cooled, top with melted Nutella and powdered sugar appropriately.
  11. Serve room temperature and then store in between foil in a plastic container.
