The last night in Porto we were ready for some lighter fare than the heavy mains and starchy sides that we kept running into during the Porto humidity. Since we don’t get much Mexican in Switzerland, we opted for Frida, a small restaurant with a Mexican chef married to a Portuguese.

The ambience was colorful and all the tables quickly filled with reservations and walk-ins.

The cover was some homemade chips and a thimble of pico with a sidecar of chili.

We quickly supplemented with guacamole that had nice flavor but was a too whipped when you favor a chunky guacamole.

My main was a bit of a mistake as I’m not much for cleaning shrimp especially with heads. The two bites I got from each were cooked perfectly and served with plantain chips and an interesting banana rice- something I’d not had before.

We also chose dessert but was told it wasn’t ready yet (strange) so we headed down the street for an ice cream to beat the heat instead.
Overall, Frida was good but not great, in line with Porto food experience in general. I’d give it another go if I had some guidance in ordering.
