On the final night in Rhodes, we went out with a bang, our very favorite meal on the island at the perfectly vibey, Koykos. The restaurant and lounge gives the whole street a fun, upbeat atmosphere.

The interior of the restaurant is a combination of open air and covered spaces, should you find yourself caught among the occasional rainstorm.

Luckily for us, we had a table adjacent to the street, tucked in the trees, but perfect for people (or feline) watching.

We started with the obligatory quartet of dips- spicy feta, tzatziki, hummus, and eggplant. They were hands down the best of the trip.

They were served with handmade pita bread that was almost more like a pizza, topped with a bubbly cheese. Absolute decadence.

For my plate, I selected the roasted veal over eggplant puree. It was delicious, but I could only finish the half, as it was just too heavy for a 90 degree summer’s day.

I don’t understand the reviews about unfriendly service at this place, as everyone from the host to the server were more than kind and helpful. Our lovely waitress guided us through this pistachio dessert and accompanying (and much needed) digestif.

Koykos was a gem of a find off the beaten path of bustling old town. Make sure to snap up a reservation in advance and have the most idyllic evening.
