Taste of Syria: An Exquisite Dining Experience at Al Dar

In search of a new cuisine, yet not so far from the hotel, as the weather was abominably cold, we found ourselves at Al Dar. I was pleasantly surprised at just how lovely the interior was with its moody lighting, starched white tablecloths, and lovely clusters of orchids adorning all of the tables.

We opted for the “Taste of Syria” and were presented with a gorgeous mezze mixture of cold dips and hot snacks, accompanied by some delicious flatbread.

The sharing continued with this lovely platter of grilled meat. Served with a garlicky sauce, olivey rice, and what nearly looks like a pizza, we were most happy with our choice of dinner.

The fluffy almond rice provided the perfect crunchy base to absorb the richness of the meat and sauces.

Finally, dessert sharing included fresh fruit, ice cream, sorbet, and a few tiny pastries for good measure.

The service was was a bit slow, but impressive in that the busboys changing tables and delivering food were wearing white cotton gloves. You really had the feeling that this restaurant cared for its presentations and the food they served; I’d definitely look forward to returning.
