Top Tips for Visiting the Cliffs of Moher

The next day we woke up early to tick a bucket list item for me- Cliffs of Moher! We were very lucky with the weather. Despite the grey skies, there was no rain and minimal wind so we were able to keep the visit. Apparently, it gets so blustery that it’s hard to stand up and people have even gotten blown off the cliffs. What! Here are a few tips that made or would have made for an even better visit:

  1. Visit in off peak times (8-11 or late in the day) as the crowds, and bathroom lines, really did build up significantly at midday.
  2. If driving, be sure to book your preferred timeslot online to save a few euros. This also covers the parking cost. (That’s right, the cliff has tickets!)
  3. It did seem if you were to arrive on foot or by bike that a ticket wasn’t really even needed. It’s hard to ticket a cliff!
  4. If driving, note that the roads to the cliffs, especially the aptly named “Corkscrew Hill” are rather nauseating. Be prepared with whatever keeps you feeling your best whether Dramamine, ginger, mints, brekky, or not at all.
  5. Consider a hat and gloves if you haven’t already! And even if it’s grey, bring your sunnies or you’ll be squinting like me in the photo below.
  6. The paths are quite narrow, think single file so make sure that cross body bag (or strollers) is minimalistic.
  7. Save a moment for the darling nearby town of Doolin for a pub lunch (or singalong if you’re Bill Murray visiting) and avoid the crowds of the Cliffs of Moher visitor center.
