In my wildest dreams, I’m not sure I would have pegged the Florida Keys as a honeymoon spot, though plenty of weddings seem to happen there. However, when a good friend marries just after you do, the only logical thing to do is pack as much in as possible on the back of a long-haul to Miami. And that we did. Cheeca Lodge was our first stop, driving directly to Islamorada after a nine hour flight from London. Neither of us sit still well, so I suppose this crazy idea made sense, though I’m tired just thinking about it now. (Not to mention my British husband was determined to meet a gator).
The hotel was loaded with families for spring break, presenting in a way that only reminded me how loud Americans are. While the company was fine, the hotel was absolutely gorgeous- stunning grounds, excellent ‘king bungalow’ room (scooped up on an insane deal), decent food and drink, and lots of complimentary amenities included in the resort fee- perfect for two ‘doers.’ I really enjoyed this beachy, laid back stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it for a visit to Islamorada.
