H10 Metropolitan- Barcelona

Last weekend stared my forty-first trip around the sun and with that came a surprise getaway from the gentleman. Little did I know that he’d managed to spell out the destination in an anagram buried in our shared calendar. Turns out I wasn’t so clever and it took me sussing it all out on the train ride to the airport. That anagram became Barcelona! As I’d only really ever seen the city a time or three quite quickly on the back of a work trip, I was looking forward to seeing it as a proper tourist and for that our stomping ground was to be the H10 Metropolitan hotel easily situated at the top of Las Ramblas.

The lobby was a mid-century modern dream, complete with a fun fireplace in the middle. Decorated for Christmas, they are quick to ply you with a glass of cava and whisk you to your room for an early check-in. Well-done, indeed.

There’s a large bar just off of the lobby that has indoor and outdoor seating that spills into the area of a tiny plunge pool. Only one of us managed to take a dip, hint: it wasn’t me.

The room is entered through a long hall of mirrors that makes for opening a closet a bit confusing until you work out what’s a real handle and what’s a decoy.

The bedroom was lovely and full of pillows, a big requirement from my side. While normal in size, the room opened to a large terrace that included a couple sun loungers and a jacuzzi.

We spent quite a bit of time out here and really got our money’s worth. Thanks to large format Rituals bathroom products, we were also able to go crazy on jacuzzi bubbles flavored in spicy orange.

A small desk worked well for hosting backup bottles of cava and last night’s purse dumping ground.

There was ample closet space and hangers, (and an iron!) which almost never happens.

A spacious bathroom featured a combo shower and plenty of hanging options for wet swimwear.

While we rarely use the minibar, it’s great when it has room to hold full size bottles of cava from Mercadona that we like to pick up for 4 EUR, less than the minibar Coca-cola.

Plenty of birthday treats including cake with candle and a bottle of local red.

I adored my birthday weekend away and the H10 Metropolitan was an excellent choice. It’s in the heart of some of the shopping, but just far enough removed that you don’t feel like you’re sleeping with the crowds. The staff was all lovely, breakfast more than ample, and birthday honored with some extra treats. Thank you to H10, though mostly the gentleman, for a gorgeous birthday weekend.
